KARACHI: The Rangers claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a dozen suspects, including members of a political party and banned outfits, as part of the ongoing operations across the city. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi police has apprehended a suspect involved in street crimes.

According to a Rangers' spokesperson, paramilitary officials conducted targeted raids in Manghopir , PIB Colony and Patel Para areas and nabbed six suspects, including three workers of a banned outfit, a member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's 'militant wing' and two 'street criminals'. The spokesperson also claimed to have recovered weapons and ammunition from their possession.

Separately, six more suspects were apprehended during snap-checking in Baldia Town and Hub Chowki areas and weapons were also recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile, the SIU said it apprehended Muhammad Waseem, son of Abdul Qadeer, during a raid conducted at Numaish Chowrangi.

SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said the accused was involved in various cases of motorcycle snatching and theft while the police also recovered three stolen motorcycles from his possession.

Awan further said that apart from this, the suspect has also been involved in various cases of street crimes in different areas of the city, including Liaquatabad, New Town and Sohrab Goth. Several cases against him are already registered and further investigation is under way, he added.
