Tech giant Google has honoured social activist Abdul Sattar Edhi by highlighting his name, date of birth and death on its Pakistan homepage.
Edhi passed away at the age of 88 in the late hours of Friday. He was suffering from kidney failure since 2013.
The link on the homepage, just below the search bar, is clickable, which directs us to another page with top online trends and information on the legendary philanthropist.
It is not always that Google pay such a tribute to welfare or social workers, but the self-less life of Edhi – who cared for millions of orphans, homeless, poorest of the poor people – did demand this remembrance.
Following the death, tributes poured in for the man unanimously revered as a national hero. Be it politicians, celebrities or the general public, the entire country shed tears on the sad demise.
In October 2015, Google paid tribute to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali khan on the musical maestro’s 67th birthday with a doodle.
