TOKYO: Japanese international striker Takuma Asano, set to play for English side Arsenal, said Monday he is keen to strut his stuff for the North London club.

"I am glad that I can have a challenge overseas, which I have always wanted," Asano said in Hiroshima, where he currently plays for J-League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Jiji Press reported.

"I want to play aggressively."

Asano, 21, who is in line for the Japanese squad at the Rio Olympic Games, was rookie of the year in Japan last season and has been on two J-League title-winning teams.

"I want to score many goals on the pitch, performing with my quick moves and eagerness," he said.

The move to Arsenal in the English Premier League is still subject to a medical and the club are yet to reveal details of the deal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he was looking forward to working with Asano, who he described as "a talented young striker and very much one for the future", on Arsenal's website.
