Actor Matthew McConaughey may have played a former NASA pilot in Interstellar, his character does take charge of the education of his children when it comes to science. The Oscar winner has now taken up the role in real-life as well, returning to his alma mater University of Texas at Austin.

According to a social media post of the varsity, the Dallas Buyers Club star will be teaching film alongside The Hunger Games director Gary Ross.

McConaughey will take 30 students behind the scenes of his and Ross’ latest film, The Free State of Jones through recorded videos, reported San Antonio Express-Times.

The university stated that McConaughey will make at least one visit to campus for the course.

The 1993 Texas grad has a home in Austin and has frequently been seen on the sidelines at Longhorns football games.

He is also in talks to reprise his role as Rustin Cohle in Nic Pizzolatto’s television show True Detective. The show’s return was not as universally popular with critics and audiences as its debut, leading to rumours that supervisors at HBO might cancel it. However, the star revealed he has been in discussions with Pizzolatto about how to bring his character back for a third season. “I’ve talked to Nic about it (returning),” he said.
