Project proposal: Garhi Shahu Bridge to be rehabilitated

Khawaja directed NESPAK Chief Engineer Azhar Masood to revise the design and prepare a final project

LAHORE: A meeting of Special Cabinet Committee on Rehabilitation of Garhi Shahu Bridge was held on Tuesday at the Civil Secretariat, Lahore.

Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja chaired the meeting. The committee formulated a Rs200 million project for the rehabilitation of the bridge. The project will cover replacement of expansion joints and laying new asphalt carpet on the Garhi Shahu Bridge and widening of both Allama Iqbal Road and GT Road terminals.

Khawaja directed NESPAK Chief Engineer Azhar Masood to revise the design and prepare a final project. The revised plan will be presented to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for final approval. Lahore Division Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal and DCO Capt (r) Muhammad Usman also attended the meeting.

zaheer ahmed | 7 years ago | Reply This bridge was a example of completing in shortest possible time and now it is giving problems after 15 years of service whereas it was designed for 50 + years. The rapid construction always give bad name to the Govt. Political figures push the projects to completion as early as possible but hurry is always does not benefit, so the quality is compromised in hurry and the Contractor get Benefit of more profit..
