An official privy to the development told The Express Tribune the fire began late on Friday night.
“Around 12 classrooms were engulfed in flames,” he said. “The record room and offices of the government high school were destroyed.”
The official added student records, furniture and other material at the offices were also damaged.
Speaking to the media, Iqbal Shah, an employee of the school confirmed the incident.

“We received the news about fire at 10pm on Friday,” he said. “By the time we reached the site, the fire had engulfed the entire building.”
He added, “The fire has burnt the records of 373 students who are currently enrolled in the school.”
According to Shah, furniture and important documents have also been destroyed.
A police official said the fire was caused by a short-circuit. The matter is being investigated and the police are trying to ascertain whether foul play was involved.
