QUETTA: At least three people were killed and over 20 injured in a blast near Quetta's Almo Chowk on Friday.

The remote-controlled blast occurred near a shop on Airport Road, spreading panic in the area.

Security officials confirmed the deaths in the incident, saying the explosives weighing eight to 10 kilogram were installed on a motorcycle parked outside a nearby shop.

Police and rescue officials rushed to the site of the blast soon after the blast and cordoned the area.

US consulate warns citizens of 'heightened threat' in Quetta

On Thursday, the United States advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Quetta due to a heightened threat in the near term affecting government and military installations, hotels, and western interests in and around the city.

The statement maintained the US government personnel may be under additional movement restrictions in coming weeks, including hotels, restaurants, and large shopping centers.

Last month, at least two policemen were killed while five others injured in an explosion near Balochistan University in Quetta.
