Warraich says Moonis Elahi not part of NICL scam

Affidavit from Mohsin Warraich claims Moonis Elahi has no part in the NICL scam.

Mohsin Warraich, the main accused in the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam, claims that Moonis Elahi has no part in the scandal.

This was stated in an affidavit from Mohsin Warraich, a copy of which was recieved by Express 24/7.

The affidavit has been attested by the Pakistan High Commission in London.

Warraich says he received Rs1.68 billion from the NICL after selling his land. But the deal was later cancelled and the amount returned.

Mohsin Warraich has also claimed that the Additional Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Zafar Iqbal Qureshi misled the court by not presenting the affidavit during the case hearing.

Moonis Elahi was being investigated on charges of receiving Rs220 million out of Rs2.5 billion misappropriated in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) land scam.

Muhammad Waseem | 13 years ago | Reply I appreciate Moonis Elahi that he came back to Pakistan and facing the Judiciary. It is the only example in Pakistan's history that a politician came back to Pakistan from abroad to face the allegations.

Khan | 13 years ago | Reply All these comments above make interesting reading.. and hold some valid points, although all of you seem to be opinionated and don't hold very broad horizons. You all seem to have to made up your mind and have become the judge and jury! Its the mentality of you all that will help mould the next generation. instead of blaming eachother and looking down on one another, try and make a stand, help make a stand and help build a better Pakistan. Take an active stance, I pray that Allah swt does what's best for Pakistan. Those with wealth will answer to Allah swt as to how they accumulated that wealth and how they spend their wealth.

The IMF report has stated that corruption has increased tenfolds under the new PPP regime. FIA wont lift a finger against Gillani or Amin Fahim's kin (That is, Until they are in power. If you want to hold the corrupt accountable. It should be for all guilty parties. For PPP, PML N, MQM etc. Not just to create a show for the media and make it a witch hunt.

Firstly you are very biased, you dont have correct information by saying Moonis has maybe made a few millions, talk about billions mate. He is known as the one of the most corrupt sons of the politicians along with Abdul Qadir Gilani. The whole world knows Moonis and Mohsin were involved in making money starting 2002 till 2007. How could Moonis make money in PPP govt? Mr Investigative journalist, let me enlighten you, Mr Ayaz Niazi was Moonis Elahis closest friend, the other Mr warraich, so he brought them together and made a cut sitting on his lazy sofa. As far as the BOP scandal is concerned where both famous M;s initially made money, its still in its investigative stage and trust me they will get into trouble in that too, its just that NICL was a much easier case to catch them in, rest assured the BOP one will fall on there head as well. Mr warraich is trying to protect Moonis on his insistence, eventhough Moonis was the one who brokered this deal with fake checks and fake accounts, yes if u insist then maybe those accounts were opened by PM;s son, sorry mate no one will believe u, you know deep down inside thet both these guys are culprits and will rot in jail for a very long time :) plz refrain from misguiding the public to win instant points infront of your friends..atleast be truthful to Pakistan to say the least.

Mr. Mohsin Waraich with the help of his friend Moonis Elahi, engaged in the plunder of Pakistan during the regime of Pervaiz Elahi and Musharraf. This land that he sold to NICL was also bought by the proceeds of that plunder. This land is not his ancestral land and Mr. Waraich has done nothing in his life other than loot our nation and blow that money in Dubai and London on seven star hotels and exotic cars. We the people of Pakistan have had enough of this revolving chair of corrupt officials and their families taking turns in looting the rest of us. These people deserve the death penalty and nothing less.

Not clarifying the position of their own corruption but pointing at the corruption of others. Anyways there should be no worth for the affidavit of a corrupt and convicted man who is still at large.

What special qualifications and credentials do these people have that enable them to acquire all this wealth. Quite simple all these people are theives and looters. The reason Pakistan has a debit of $55bn now is because these people have systematically looted the poor people of Pakstan. They are the ones who will have to repay the debit. Nothing changes. The same family of theives continue to take from the poor. I hope lessons shall be learnt from other such thugs around the World. Non of these people. Namely Mohsin Warraich or Moonis Elahi are innocennt. You only have to see the wealth they flaunt in London. Where they all come to hide.

Awaz | 13 years ago | Reply Hi Omar Khan, I agree with you re : Amin Fahim's son and Gilani's son, the FIA are looking for people to pin down because otherwise ppl will start pointing fingers at the above. Amin Fahim appointed the entire NICL board including Ayaz Niazi who is an ex Night Club manager in Dubai, everyone else on the board was not massively qualified for the job either. Moonis is probably guilty as well as they have actually traced the money + his manager has given a written statement against Moonis (it might be in duress but we arent certain) which for the moment has to be believed. The FIA is desperately trying to find more and more scapegoats, look at Javed Sye (Audit Manger) sitting in London, Warraich in London and now Moonis is in London and they claim another accused Amin Dada is also involved. This poor chap Dada has really done nothing, the FIA or the supreme has not once come out and said that any money or assets have been seized or found on Dada re: no financial corruption yet they are trying to make him one of pakistans most wanted which again fortifies that the FIA is looking for scapegoats and keeping importan people away so they can pin the blame on them. I would urge the supreme court to seperate the men from the boys and go after the real criminals.

omar khan | 13 years ago | Reply N. Khan, All money in the Rs 1.68 Billion has been returned to NICL on December 31st 2010. Please understand facts straight. There is just this one case against Mohsin Warraich. They tried to fabricate another case against him on the 20 kanal on airport road that he sold to NICL. When the supreme court got an evaluation done it turned out to be the right price, so nothing has become of the 20 Kanal case. The main accused should be Ayaz Niazi. Amin Fahim's buddy. The total NICL cases amount to rs 9 billion, some are in Karachi, some in Lahore, and some in Dubai. Why is there not any spotlight there. Mohsin Habib didnt have anything to do with the other cases, and hes returned the money. There are photos that the FIA has of Niazi, PM's son, and Amin Fahim's son gambling 100,000 pounds in a casino in London. Those are your culprits. The FIA has just turned the guns toward Mohsin Habib and now Moonis Elahi to keep the spot light on them. Unlike the NAB the FIA reports to Rehman Malik and the PM. Get it? Why would Moonis Elahi do something when in opposition? It doesn't make sense to do it in opposition, when you didn't do it when in power? And if you ask how i know that, then because there are no cases and no evidence. The manager of At-Tahoor has been severly tortured and has in court, since I was there covering the story, said that he was beaten and forced to sign a confession statement. But evidence against the Sharif's is plenty and all of it's in court. The judiciary is too tilted towards PMLN so forget any justice. And the PPP in general. The highest corruption of all time. I am not against accountability. I am an investigative journalist. And i must speak up about this case, since it's just not right. All those found, "guilty" should be punished. Even if it's Moonis Elahi.

omar khan | 13 years ago | Reply I think we need to wake up and look at the facts. I am an investigative journalist and have been following all the supreme court suo moto cases. This is the most interesting. There is no link between Moonis Elahi and this case. I mean, it's the PPP government's time, and they have been embezzling money and involved in rampant corruption. But i am also an honest Pakistani so i must speak up. This is being done to turn attention away from Abdul Qadir Gillani and the involvement of Amin Fahim's son. How can Moonis Elahi do corruption during the PPP government's reign. I mean come on. Gillani's son didnt have enough money to fly to his father's inauguration. Now he drives around in a Rs 70 Million car. His fleet of cars is worth Rs 2 billion. He has nine 2 canal properties in DHA lahore alone, and has an apartment in mayfair, london of Rs 4 Billion. The focus should be here. We should hang anyone and everyone who is guilty. However, the courts are not following the due process of law in this case. Nawaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Zardari, and their cronies have made billions. There is documentation and proof to suggest the same. Maybe the Chaudhries have made some millions but till date not a since shred of evidence or proof from their time in government. Not one. They have been trying, but this is what they come up with? They have not been able to establish any links with the BOP scandal and them either. That has been with them for a year. The reason is because there was nothing there. Lets not hate because someone has more money than us. Moonis Elahi has nothing to do with this case. Mohsin Habib Warraich got screwed because he was selling his own land. If you own a peice of land you can sell it for a paisa or for a billion. The onus is always on the buyer, especially if that involves the government. Turn the focus to Gillani's son and Amin Fahim's son where the gun should be pointed. Most guilty is ayaz niazi the chairman.

N. Khan | 13 years ago | Reply Why should affidavit of Mr. Warraich matter? Mohsin Warraich is someone who is accused of being main beneficiary in the NICL scam. He has not returned to Pakistan and there are red-warrants issued for him. His father, Habib Warraich is in jail because the son does not have decency to come back to Pakistan and face charges. Moonis is definitely involved and got paid off. Also, Mohsin Warraich and Moonis Elahi were accused of making hundred of crores also during the Musharraf regime. So they go back a long way.
