Policeman linked with al Qaeda on VVIP duties

Intelligence reports say the security official served at the Prime Minister’s house and FIA office in Lahore.

LAHORE: A police official, having established links with the al Qaeda terror network, had been assigned security of VVIPs in Lahore many times in the past, The Express Tribune has learnt.

Sources said the police official had served at the Prime Minister House in Lahore and at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Punjab’s office in Lahore.

Intelligence officials said that the police official was a resident of Rawalpindi district, but he managed to get a domicile of Lahore district and was recruited in the Punjab police on the basis of the forged domicile.

The police official had been assigned the security of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the then-chief minister of Punjab. However, he was suspended when spy agencies established his links with al Qaeda. He was also detained by security agencies for questioning.

Ironically, he not only got back his job after some time but was also assigned the security of the Prime Minister House in Lahore and the FIA Punjab office till December, last year.

Subsequently, the FIA banned his entry into its offices, but surprisingly the police brass is still reluctant to take action against the police official notwithstanding his established links with al Qaeda.

The FIA Punjab’s office in Lahore was twice targeted by terrorists in the past and officials keep receiving threats of more attacks.

Top retired brass still boast having links with banned organizations and are shown every now and then in our TV talk shows. Some anchor persons also had or perhaps still have links with these elements. Soft corner is seen in all departments which must be checked if anyone really has balls to check them. In fact there is an urgent need to overhaul our system at all levels with people having balanced approach to all issues which affect our day to day life. Things are not moving towards right direction.

We should be grateful that China still cooperates with us in the defence sector. Even that is asking for too much. We, as a nation, will get absolutely no where if we keep begging for money while making one huge mistake after another. Time to stop blaming the Zionists and Hindus and the US and everyone else for our problems and taking a long hard look in the mirror. Pakistans biggest problem is Pakistanis.

Ashraf | 13 years ago | Reply A perfect storm is brewing in Pakistan. Terrorism has penetrated every nook and cranny of society and it looks like everybody is out to get everybody else. Where all this will lead to, is anybody's guess. I don't think there has been such a confluence of circumstances and events in the history of Pakistan. With the entire amount of flood donations not coming in (due to alleged routing of funds to nuclear weapons production) and IMF not willing to release the next tranche (due to tax reforms not being adopted), a financial catastrophe is around the corner. More importantly, the damage done to Pakistan's image abroad will hurt the most. To rebuild, the country needs international goodwill and Pakistan is scraping the barrel in this area. The 'Muslim Brotherhood' will heap platitudes and throw peanuts. The less said about China the better. They are sitting on a reserve of more than $2500 billion and a soft-loan of just $10 billion will tide over Pakistan's difficulty. But apart from words, nothing is forthcoming.

But we still somehow manage to target the US for all the evils. "Centres of evil are located simultaneously at separate and multiple places." Although the following questions are not seemingly relevant to the topic but if anyone consider these worthwhile these can prove helpful in understanding the reality. 1. If oil supply in the international markets increases, say through Central Asian Republics, what would happen to the prices? (demand and supply law + simple mathematics) 2. Whose revenues will dwindle? Answers and analysis are your own.
