PESHAWAR: A police constable who was gunned down in Khazana was laid to rest in his native village in Daudzai on Monday morning.

Gulzar was killed on Sunday night by unidentified gunmen when he was on his way home near Maqsoodabad within the jurisdiction of Khazana police. He later succumbed to his injuries at Lady Reading Hospital.

Police suspected it was an act of targeted killing since Gulzar had no enemies. Gulzar was an ex-serviceman hired by the police in 2008 at Khazana police station on a contract basis following his retirement. He was also the sole breadwinner of his family. The deceased was living with his two wives and children in a house in Maqsoodabad.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, a police official said Gulzar was the sole bread earner of his family.

This is the second attack on a police official during the month of Ramazan. On June 16, sub-inspector Qayum Dad was also killed in a roadside bomb blast that targeted a police vehicle.

Last week, a sub-inspector of Khazana police station was killed while three others were injured in a roadside bomb attack. In October 2013, a police official was gunned down by unidentified gunmen in Khazana.
