Teacher training: Govt to prepare teachers for new qualification

KARACHI: Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq announced a government plan to promote qualified and dedicated teachers to higher grades.

Talking to a delegation of Pre-STEP, a USAID-funded project, during a briefing session on Monday, he said that service rules would be amended soon to allow teachers in Sindh to improve the quality of education and that there would also be a focus on teacher training.

The delegation told the minister about preparatory work done concerning the Associate Degree in Education (ADE) and the upcoming summer camp for the faculty of two colleges, GECE Hussainabad Karachi and GECE Hyderabad, which have been selected for the piloting of ADE qualification.

Secretary Education Nahid Shah Durrani said that ADE will replace the existing CT, PTC courses by 2012.

The Pre-STEP delegation stated that an effective media campaign will soon be launched to introduce the Associate Degree in Sindh.
