The way forward: Free textbooks distributed among govt school students

PESHAWAR: The free distribution of textbooks among government school students in K-P was successfully completed on Monday.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board.

“Supply of textbooks to schools in K-P for the academic year 2016-17 was a big challenge,” the document stated. “This was the first time textbooks were printed through a competitive process since the textbook board’s was established in 1971.”

It added, “The books were printed using KPPPRA rules instead of the quota allocation system.”

According to the press release, the new system has brought transparency and has also increased the quality of textbooks printed as well.

“Out of Rs953 million for printing of books for 2016 -17, Rs455 million was obtained from printers in K-P,” the document stated. “This is 48% of the total cost.”
