Hurling Hand Grenades: Man imprisoned for attempting murder

A local court awarded 14-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000 to a man in a case of attempted murder. The court also ordered the property of the convict be confiscated. The additional and sessions judge, Yasir Shabbir, heard a case on Friday. He was told the convict, Akhtar Nawab, a resident of Peshawar, hurled two hand grenades at the house of Raqeem Bibi on July 31, 2010 over enmity. According to the prosecution, two women, Ruqaia and Zeenat, were critically injured in the incident. After going through statements of witnesses, the court said the convict attempted a murder. Therefore, the court awarded him a jail term of seven years for attempting a murder and another seven years for hurling hand grenades, along with a fine.
