KARACHI: Our entertainment industry never fails to, well, entertain us. Recently, criticism from prominent members of the industry as well as fans followed the Lux Style Awards (LSA) nomination announcements. The haphazard categorisation forced a number of actors to speak up, requesting either a withdrawal or a change in category. The most interesting, however, was the case of Ahmed Ali Butt.

The singer-turned-actor was one of the first people to raise his voice. In a lengthy post on Facebook, the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA) star requested the jury to shift his nomination from the ‘Best Film Actor’ to the ‘Best Film Supporting Actor’ category.

It appears that the actor’s words have not fallen on deaf ears as the jury took notice of his request.

After reviewing the decision, the organisers have shifted Butt’s nomination to ‘Best Film Supporting Actor’ category. According to a press release, the ‘Best Film Supporting Actor’ category will have six nominees this year.

LSA nominations row: Ahmed Ali Butt moved to Best Supporting Actor category

Actor Danish Taimoor has replaced the former rapper for his performance in the movie Wrong No. as a nominee for ‘Best Film Actor’.

When approached, Butt said he was satisfied by the decision. “The reason I didn’t feel right being nominated in the ‘Best Film Actor’ category was because my role in the movie was not that of a main lead,” he explained. “It would have been unfair to all the other nominees.”

Butt also added that given the LSA’s status as one of Pakistan’s most prestigious award shows, the jury should also include a ‘Best Film Writer’ and ‘Best Choreographer’ category in the coming years. “The efforts of all the people involved in the film-making process should be recognised,” he stated.

On the other hand, the jury seems to have paid no heed to actor Ali Safina’s appeal. The actor had requested the jury to withdraw his nomination from the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category as he was the lead actor in Jalaibee.
