Red carpet round-up: Tony Awards 2016

The Tony Awards ceremonial is typically reserved for the leading and brightest stars of Broadway theatre

The Tony Awards ceremonial is typically reserved for the leading and brightest stars of Broadway theatre — but as 2016’s red carpet manifestation has publicised, supermodels like Karolina Kurkova and Hollywood heavyweights like Cate Blanchett have absolutely no hitches whatsoever in pilfering the spotlight. Both garbed in trendy noir ensembles, we couldn’t help but swoon!

Karolina Kurkova

The supermodel arrived to the Beacon Theatre in New York City in an outfit one part formal-sophisticated, one part athletic as she wore a redefined version of a varsity jacket over a classic black gown. Adding an extra edge to the ensemble, the gold jacket was festooned with silver patches and diamond broaches on the lapel and collar — the Czech beauty rocked the outfit with poise. From the thigh-high split to her strappy stilettos, the former Victoria’s Secret model was a pure head turner. Karolina kept on trend with a groovy leather clutch, which also featured various patches and a gold chain.

Cate Blanchett

One characteristic that’s definite about Cate’s style is that it’s always far from bleak. The Aussie actor graced the Tony Awards venue in a black and white Louis Vuitton dress that featured a contrasting bustier detail across her chest. The dress was an amalgamation of fabrics layered on top of one another, concluding in an asymmetric line. The grunge-inspired dress also comprised leather sleeves, and she added to the theme of the look with large metal earrings and thick black eyeliner — how dapper is that? Pinned to the left side of the Blue Jasmine star’s chest was a silver, translucent ribbon to remember the victims of recent the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.
