MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: She may have become the ‘Baby Doll’ of Bollywood music after singing the hit with the same name, however, Kanika Kapoor shared her journey has been no easy feat.

Shedding light on her career, Kapoor added she did not get fame overnight and worked very hard for it. Despite belting out hits one after another, she still despises songs that have abuses in them.

“I don’t like abusive songs. I find them very shallow ... Unless it’s part of a script, I will not do it. I will not sing songs that have a bad meaning to them,” she said.

The singer, who doesn’t have any back-up from the industry, said her journey so far has been great. “It’s been a very interesting journey and it has been a huge struggle for me. I have been singing since I was eight. I still have a long way to go,” she added.

Would love to visit Islamabad again, says 'Baby Doll' singer Kanika Kapoor

“In any business, you can only be successful when you are convincing and consistent. As a singer, I sing from my heart. For me, my business is my music and I sing for myself and I sing for my soul. That’s what is connecting,” said the Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan hit-maker.

Kapoor feels fans are aware of her hard work and dedication. “It has been an amazing journey for me. It took a lot of hard work and dedication for years ... it hasn’t happened overnight. It took almost 20 years to reach where I am today,” she stated. “I have been singing since a very early age and I have been dedicated towards it.”

When it comes to work, Kapoor, who has also sung the single Da Da Dasse for the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Udta Punjab, asserted that for her, less is more. “I have lots of songs that I rejected because I didn’t want to be a part of something that I didn’t like myself.” Kapoor concluded that she looks for good quality music while deciding on projects.
