Recruiting doctors: Contempt of court petition filed against health secretary
The petition was submitted by Dr Raheel and Dr Umer Habib through their counsel Khalid Rahman
PESHAWAR:
A contempt of court petition was filed against the health secretary, Abid Majeed, for continuing the recruitment of 1,100 ad hoc doctors despite a stay order from the Peshawar High Court.
The petition was submitted by Dr Raheel and Dr Umer Habib through their counsel Khalid Rahman.
The petitioners’ counsel said the secretary proceeded with the selection by interviewing candidates since June 10 and was continuing the same till the filing of the petition.
He said the acts and action of the secretary amounted to contempt of court as he deliberately took the step despite being in full knowledge of the stay order.
The petitioners requested contempt of court proceedings against the secretary and punishment according to the law. On June 9, PHC stayed the appointment of 1,100 doctors to work ad hoc after it was challenged by doctors.
