The Bombay High Court has overruled the Central Board of Film Certification's recommended 13 cuts for Udta Punjab and cleared the film for release with only one cut and three disclaimers by the filmmakers.
The Indian censor board has also been directed to issue an 'A' Certificate to the film.

Earlier on Monday, the censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani, granted the Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer an 'A' certificate with 13 cuts and also said that the film's makers were never asked to drop Punjab from the title.
"Udta Punjab has been passed with an A certificate (restricted for adult audience)... We have given it 13 cuts," Nihalani told reporters.
"The producer (Anurag Kashyap) claimed that we had asked for change in the title, but we never asked them for it. He went to the media for publicity," he added.

Co-produced by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, Udta Punjab is a film based on the drug abuse in Punjab.
The film has made headlines ever since India's censor board demanded a whopping 89 cuts. The revising committee later brought down their request to 13 cuts.
