ISLAMABAD:

Over 690,000 new students were enrolled at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in spring 2016, which is a new record for the varsity. The rise in enrolment was around 50,000 compared to the previous record.

There was a significant improvement due to streamlining of admissions, mailing, and evaluation and examination system.

AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui said at a meeting of senior academics and service heads that greater focus was laid on the quality of education and research-based activities.

There is a considerable increase in the students’ trust in the university’s open distance learning system as well. The varsity has also been arranging face-to-face classes for science students, along with open distance and blended teaching for other the programmes.
