NEW YORK: US officials said they have so far been unable to verify statements by the Times Square suspect that he was trained at a Pakistani terror camp.
Officials speaking on condition of anonymity also said they have not yet been able to link Faisal Shahzad to any terrorist group.
Authorities said Shahzad had told the FBI he was trained in Waziristan. This stoked fears that the failed bombing is a part of an international plot.
Investigators are trying to verify his statements. However, they said the crude, ineffective car bomb did not demonstrate the kind of explosives training terror groups normally provide ahead of a bombing operation.
