LAHORE: Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced uninterrupted supply of electricity during sehr and iftar in Ramazan.

In a press statement, Chief Executive Officer Qaisar Zaman that the company had made special arrangements to avoid load shedding during sehar and iftar.

He said all electricity feeders –domestic, commercial and industrial-domestic – would remain operational from 6:30pm to 4am. Independent industrial feeders would remain off during the period, he said.

The company has the same policy for rural consumers, he said. The LESCO chief appealed consumers to curb their electricity use during Ramazan.

“The government is trying hard to provide people uninterrupted power supply during sehr, iftar and taraveeh. However, there will be six hours of load shedding in urban spaces and eight hours of load shedding in rural areas daily during Ramazan,” said Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali while talking to journalists at a public gathering last month.

“The government led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has been executing power generation projects on war-footing… we are hopeful that the situation will improve next year,” he added.

The minister said between 8,000 and 10,000 megawatt electricity would be injected into the grid by 2018. “We are striving hard to overcome load shedding completely by March, 2018,” Ali said.
