During hot-summer days, when mercury rises past 100⁰F and simple tasks such as studying or even enjoying meal become really difficult. In such testing times you might have wished to have a personal cooler that could make your work station more tolerable or make your meal more enjoyable as turning on an air conditioner is not plausible all the time.

If you have ever wished for anything like this, then your prayers have been answered. Welcome Geizeer, a personal eco-friendly ice cooling with refrigerant mixtures, which is also economical and would cost less than 1 cent a day.

Geizeer’s body is composed of two shells in wood and metal finishing frames. Inside the frames, the device contains a rechargeable battery, a micro USB with PCBs, a DC brush-less fan and an ice pack.

How does it work

It is actually really simple. Just put the cone-shaped ice pack, containing mixture gels, previously frozen from the freezer into the lower half of the cube and put the other half, in which a DC brush-less fan is installed, on top of it. Rotate the upper half so that the two signs of power coincide. It completes the circuit and fan start rotating. To turn it off, simply lift and rotate the cover. There is no on/off button or ignition key.

Explaining how it works, the developers claimed that the fan sends room-temperature air past the frozen ice pack. Just after few seconds in contact with the ice pack, the cool air is pushed out from the cracks between the two halves of the Geizeer.

This tiny, portable air conditioner’s cooling capacity is about 3⁰ Celsius for a well insulated room of 12 square meters. The ice pack lasts for four hour and can be re-used. While the 3.7V battery lasts around 7 hours and is charged via micro-USB cable.

The device is developed by an Italy-based start-up, idea3Di. The developers have put it up for crowd-funding on Kickstarter and have secured over €166,000 ($189,000) against their goal of €30,000.
