After treating fans to a number of popular singles, his debut music album will be out in a month. “I don’t bother with what people say about no music albums being done in Pakistan. Someone has to bring that culture back. When we were younger we would wait for Noori and Atif Aslam to launch albums and now it’s our time to do it,” he shared, adding, “The launch won’t be online – I’ll do three big album launch shows in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.”
His songs have been mostly romantic ballads and this album will be no different. All the songs are in Urdu, but the young crooner revealed that he also pens lyrics in English. “I write in English but don’t put them out because my core audience is in Pakistan. For them, I ensure my music is commercial and easy to listen to and understand. If I go abroad for a while I might release my English songs.”
Uzair has always believed that being active on social media is key, and started his career by putting out tracks on YouTube. He lamented that people in Pakistan possess incredible talent, but don’t have the right platform to promote their skills. “I realised at an early age that no one is going to promote me, I’ll have to do it myself. Artists in Pakistan have double the work; write the song, perform it, record it and in the end promote it as well.”
‘Tere bin’ takes Uzair Jaswal even further
As a teenager, he was part of a rock band called Scar. “Umair bhai’s band Silver Smoke, Yasir bhai’s Irtaash and Scar would play together at rock events. That’s how most of us started but people’s priorities change. I never stopped doing what I love to do. It doesn’t matter where you are – if you keep going you will get noticed.”
The singer is of the opinion that money comes automatically if quality is maintained. “I think videos give a whole new experience to songs.” Uzair is also working on two films, the details of which he refuses to divulge at the moment. “People who contact me for films say ‘why else would we contact you if we didn’t want you to sing’ and that’s perfect for me. I want roles where I can do both together.”
