First look: ‘Dishoom’ is nothing like ‘Dhoom’, says John
Cast members speak at trailer launch of Rohit Dhawan directorial
MUMBAI:
The trailer of Rohit Dhawan directorial Dishoom is out and, looking at it, one can expect lots of action in the Varun Dhawan, John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer film. While Jacqueline turned host at the launch of the upcoming Bollywood film on Wednesday, both John and Varun denied any similarities that the film has with Dhoom.
This was the Jacqueline’s first time as host for a trailer launch event. “I had a lot of fun anchoring the trailer launch. It was the first time for me and I am glad it was for Dishoom, a movie which is very close to my heart,” she said in a statement. The cast of the film along with producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Rohit Dhawan were present on the occasion. Dishoom also stars actor Saqib Saleem in a lead role.
The same day, Varun took to Twitter to share the Youtube link of the trailer. “Here we go, Dishoom,” he tweeted. The trailer starts with a cricket pitch with an Indian batsman walking towards it. John is essaying the role of Kabir Shergill, a Special Task Force agent who seems to be an ace at his job in the more than three-minute-long trailer.
Slated to release on July 29, Dishoom will also mark the comeback of Dil Chahta Hai actor Akshaye Khanna, who was away from the silver screen for about four years. He plays a grey character named Wagah, who in the trailer says that he belongs neither to Hindustan nor Pakistan.
When asked about the similarities between Dhoom and Dishoom, Varun said, “This is nothing like Dhoom, but because John was in the first Dhoom, I think he should answer why it is different.” Following Varun, the Rocky Handsome star shared “Except the name, it’s a different template. It’s a different format, it’s very different and I really love this space. The experience was absolutely fantastic. We had a lot of fun, great action, the actions sequences in the film are very large, and it’s really a huge scale film. It’s very special, it comes from the heart. We’re not forcing the line.”
Bollywood Films: LHC disposes plea against screening
John’s Dhoom was one of his biggest hits, and the franchise grew bigger with superstars such as Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan taking it on a higher level with Dhoom 2 and Dhoom 3. John’s character in the upcoming film is also named Kabir like it was in Dhoom. Speaking about when he initially read the script, John stated “When I heard the script of ‘Dishoom’, the first thing that I told Sajid and Rohit was that Dishoom will go up to an eighth instalment because this is a very young, action adventure franchise. It’s going to be fun. It’s a great franchiable film.”
About his special moments from the film, the Jism star said, “All of us coming together is fantastic. It’s my second film with Sajid. I can confidently say that I’m really close to him. Rohit is like my younger brother.” He added “With Varun, what you can see on the screen, we are the same off the screen. Our chemistry is absolutely fantastic. And Jacqueline is a sweetheart. I’ve always been a huge fan of Akshaye (Khanna). So the fact that he is in this film means so much to me personally.”
The movie is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film Mumbai Police and is set to release on July 29.
