Christian man booked for posting blasphemous text on social media

Sheikhupura police lodges FIR against Usman Masi after residents of Nabipura filed a complaint against him

LAHORE: Sheikhupura police on Thursday registered a case against a Christian man for allegedly posting blasphemous content on social media.

District Police Officer (DPO) Sarfraz Khan Virk said the suspect, Usman Masi, resident of Nabipura on Wednesday posted blasphemous text on a social networking website, following which residents of the area lodged a complaint against him. However, he did not delve into details regarding which social networking website the text was posted on nor the text itself.



Speaking to The Express Tribune, Inspector Iftkhar Ahmed said, "According to initial investigations, blasphemous messages were posted by a Christian man named Usman Masi."

An FIR was lodged after Ahsan Hasmat, a resident of the area, filed a complaint against the suspect at Factory Area Police Station, Ahmed said. "Police officials are yet to arrest the suspect," he added.

On May 2, police in Punjab’s Sahiwal district booked six people, including the owner of a private transport service, under blasphemy law for allegedly desecrating a Sikh man’s turban.



Owner of a local bus service, Haji Riyasat, and his five employees Baqir Ali, Rashid Gujar, Faiz Alam, Shakeel and Snawal have been booked under blasphemy law for desecrating a turban of a Sikh passenger, police sources told The Express Tribune.

According to reports, Mahinder Singh Paal, a 29-year-old resident of Multan, was traveling from Faisalabad to Multan by a bus owned by Kohistan-Faisal Movers Company which is based out of Dijkot.
