LAHORE: The executions of Jamaat-i-Islami leaders in Bangladesh amounts to judicial killings, speakers at a conference organised by the Islamic Lawyers’ Movement (ILM) said on Monday.

The speakers included JI ameer Sirajul Haq, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Justice (r) Hafiz Abdur Rahman Ansari, Supreme Court Bar Association secretary Asad Manzur Butt, Chaudhry Khalid Farooq, and Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) president Rana Zia Abdul Rahman.

Haq said that Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami’s only crime was that he had supported a united Pakistan and had refused to support conspiracies.

The JI leader praised the Turkish government for recalling its ambassador from Bangladesh in protest. Haq said that the government should refuse to accept the US demand for releasing Shakil Afridi.

Rafiq said it was true that the Foreign Office had not raised an effective voice against the executions. “This is a matter of national honour,” he said.
