LAHORE: A mixed trend was witnessed in vegetable prices at Sunday Bazaars this week.

According to the price list issued by the Lahore Market Committee, a 56 per cent increase was recorded in bringle prices. It was sold for Rs25 to Rs28 per kilogramme.

Similarly, potato prices recorded a 40 per cent surge. Good quality potatoes were available for Rs18 to Rs21 per kg. It was available for Rs15 per kg last week.

Green peas were available for Rs90 to Rs100 per kg – a 25 per cent increase compared to last week. Cauliflower prices showed an 18 per cent increase. It was available for Rs37 and Rs40 per kg in the weekly bazaars.

Taro root (arvi) prices witnessed an 11 per cent hike. It was available for Rs45 to Rs50 per kg. Spinach and carrots were available for Rs9 to Rs11 and Rs10 to Rs11 per kg, respectively. Premium quality lemon was sold for Rs190 to Rs202 per kg. A lower grade lemon variety was available for Rs125 to Rs132 per kg.

Chinese ginger prices also witnessed over a seven per cent increase. It was available for Rs70 to Rs75 per kg. A Thai ginger variety was traded between Rs35 and Rs39 per kg. Desi garlic prices increased by four per cent this week. It was available for Rs110 to Rs120 per kg. On the other hand, the price of Chinese garlic reduced by three per cent. Its was sold for Rs135 to Rs145 per kg. Methi was available for Rs22 to Rs24 per kg after its price rose by four per cent.

Tomato, sponge gourd (ghiya tori), bottle gourd (ghiya kaddu), cabbage, lady finger, capsicum and onion prices declined. According to the price list, there was a 33 per cent decline in tomato prices as compared to last week. It was available for Rs8 to Rs10 per kg. Sponge gourd price decreased by 27 per cent. It was sold for Rs35 to Rs40 per kg. The price of bottle gourd declined by 17 per cent. It was sold for Rs13 to Rs15 per kg.

Cabbage prices declined by 15 per cent and it was sold for Rs9 to Rs11 per kg. Okra prices fell by nine per cent and it was available for Rs45 and Rs50 per kg. Capsicum prices declined by six per cent. It was available for Rs15 to Rs17 per kg. Onion prices also dropped by five per cent and it was sold for Rs17 to Rs20 per kg.

Prices of cucumber, green chili, radish and pumpkin remained stable. Desi cucumber was available for Rs23 to Rs25 per kg. Farmed cucumber was available for Rs6 and Rs8 per kg. Desi green chili was available for Rs35 to Rs40 per kg. A farmed variety was available for Rs18 to Rs20 per kg. Radish and pumpkin were available for Rs7 per kg.
