KARACHI:
The Pakistani film industry may have been taken over by the younger generation but this certainly does not make industry veterans irrelevant.

Film legend Nadeem Baig visiting Lahore this week for the shooting of actor-director Shaan Shahid’s upcoming film Zarrar gave the latter a chance to host some of his close associates from the circuit for a reunion.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Shaan’s manager Noman Nazir said it was a casual meet up where the attendees recalled memorable projects from the past, sang songs and shared their concerns about the industry’s future.

Among those present, as a picture uploaded to Shaan’s Facebook page indicates, were Babra Sharif, Reema, Nadeem, Faisal Rehman and the husband-wife duo of Rambo and Sahiba.

The young-at-heart veterans expressed the desire to continue contributing to Pakistani cinema in whatever capacity they can.

Zarrar saw tragedy recently is the shape of the death of renowned action choreographer Qaiser Mastana. On Tuesday, he complained of chest pain on the sets of the film. The 60-year-old was advised to go home around 4am. He breathed his last after returning from Fajr prayers.

Specialising in the direction of stunts and action sequences, Mastana was a reputable name of the Lahore film industry for the past 40 years. He choreographed action sequences for over 500 films, with Zarrar and Sawaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka being his last two projects.

Majority of the stunt instructors today are students of Mastana. Originally hailing from Lahore, Mastana had moved to Karachi following the crisis of the industry but had recently returned to his hometown for work.
