Corruption reference: Warrants issued for Minhaj Qazi

The Rangers had taken Qazi into custody in February and detained him for three months

KARACHI: An accountability court issued on Friday non-bailable warrants for the arrest of suspected hit man Minhaj Qazi in a Rs320 million corruption reference. On Thursday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed the reference alleging that Qazi, along with his associates, committed a fraud with the public in the name of a housing scheme off the Northern Bypass. NAB claimed that Areesha City Project was initiated a few years ago in Gadap Town by the suspects who allegedly looted around Rs320 million from the public. The Rangers had taken Qazi into custody in February and detained him for three months. Later, he was handed over to the police in a case pertaining to the murder of then managing director of Karachi Electric Supply Company Shahid Hamid, his driver, and a guard in 1997. His investigation in that case is under way.
