Military farms dispute: Demo held to demand AMP men’s release

LAHORE:

Dozens of Anjuman Mazareen Punjab (AMP) women workers and Awami Workers’ Party (AWP) activists on Friday staged a protest demonstration to press for the release of imprisoned AMP leaders including its general secretary Meher Abdul Sattar. They raised slogans demanding radical land reforms, fair distribution of agricultural land and an end to use of terrorism laws to suppress social movements of the working class. They said their agitation would continue till the authorities gave in to their demands and released AMP leaders. The demonstrators condemned the provincial government and police for harassing them to prevent the demo from happening.  Operations DIG Haider Ashraf said police had been tipped-off regarding the protestors’ plan to disrupt public order. He said police had taken pre-emptive action. They had also requested them to resolve their problems in Okara, he said.
