Sunday Bazaars: Prices of most vegetables go up

The price of methi (fenugreek) was higher by 35 per cent as it sold for Rs20 to Rs23 a kg

LAHORE: Prices of most seasonal vegetables at Sunday Bazaars were higher compared to last week.

According to the price list issued by the Lahore Market Committee, the price of methi (fenugreek) was higher by 35 per cent as it sold for Rs20 to Rs23 a kg. The price of cabbages was up by 30 per cent as these sold for Rs10 to Rs13 a kg.

Peas’ price was higher by 23 per cent; these sold for Rs70 to Rs80 a kg. The price of premium-quality lemons (native) was higher by 19 per cent and these sold for Rs170 to Rs185 a kg. Second-grade lemons sold for Rs125 to Rs135 a kg following an increase of 12.5 per cent in their prices.

The prices of ginger (Chinese and Thai) were up by 17 and 16 per cent, respectively. Chinese ginger sold for Rs140 to Rs150 a kg and its Thai variety for Rs34 to Rs37 a kg. The price of tomatoes rose by 15 per cent. These sold for Rs10 to Rs15 a kg.

The price of cucumbers was higher by 14 per cent; these sold for Rs20 to Rs25 a kg. Okra’s price was up by 10 per cent and it sold for Rs40 to Rs55 a kg.

Capsicums witnessed an increase of 6 per cent in their price. These sold for Rs15 to Rs18 a kg. Garlic (native) registered a five per cent hike in its price; it sold for Rs110 to Rs115 a kg. The price of Chinese ginger was lower by 6 per cent as it sold for Rs140 to Rs150 a kg. The price of bitter gourd was up by 3 per cent. The vegetable was available for Rs20 to Rs30 a kg.

The prices of carrots, brinjals, taro roots (arvi), green chili, onions and turnips were lower. Onions’ price was lower by 19 per cent and the vegetable sold for Rs18 to Rs21 a kg. The prices of green chili were lower by 11 per cent, taro roots 10 per cent, brinjals 10 per cent and carrots 9 per cent.Green chili sold for Rs53 to Rs40 a kg and taro roots prices were Rs40 to Rs45 a kg.
