Live on air, Gayle — who later insisted he was just joking — said he was happy to be interviewed by McLaughlin “just to see her eyes for the first time."

On Mother's day, Gayle posted a picture of his wife and daughter on Instagram and said: "Over the last couple [of] years I used to tease you and say happy Mother's Day - well, today it's for real. Happy Mother's Day Tash. I want to wish all Moms a wonderful day."
