LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday sealed a number of food and beverage outlets for not adhering to food safety regulations.

A Data Ganj Bakhsh Town team sealed Super Soda Water in Karim Market for filling unfiltered water in soda bottles. The beverage unit did not have a filtration plant. Cleanliness arrangements at the facility were also poor.

Mukarram Foods in the same area was sealed for using substandard food colours and prohibited ingredients in the manufacture of juice. Workers at the factory could not produce medical certificates. The unit did not have the facility for printing manufacturing and expiry dates on the products.

A Samanabad Town team sealed Shahid Chanay and Burger Point for using substandard ketchup. The facility did not have soap for dish washing. Junaid Sharbat and Sugarcane Shop was sealed for using unwholesome food colours.

A Ravi Town team fined Abdul Jabbar Soda Water for violation of rules. It also seized 450 litres of soda water. Lasani Naan Chanay was fined for poor cleanliness arrangements.

Bismillah Dahi Bhallay in Karim Market was sealed for operating without a counter. Haji Sweets near the City railway station was fined for using dirty utensils. Flies were also detected there. Crown Plaza Hotel on Canal Road was fined for selling expired food products and over poor cleanliness arrangements. Mr Chicks in Mughalpura was fined for similar reasons.

Provincial food authority had earlier issued warnings to these food outlets and directed them to improve hygiene standards.
