KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will stage a ‘big’ demonstration in front of the Karachi Central Jail in the coming week to protest against the ‘atrocities’ of jail authorities and the Sindh government. This was decided in a meeting of the party’s Rabita Committee on Saturday. Party spokesperson Aminul Haque said their demonstration will highlight the plight of the 1,000 party workers who are currently behind bars. “Our workers are being tortured,” alleged Haque. “They are not being allowed to meet their families and their hearings are being held only when they bribe officials.” He said that the condition of their workers was discussed with the chief minister last week but nothing had been done to improve the situation, which is why they will now hold a protest outside the jail premises.
