QUETTA:

The Balochistan High Court on Wednesday approved for hearing a petition filed by the former speaker of the Balochistan Assembly Aslam Bhootani against allotment of land to a power generation company, Hubco, on lower prices.

The bench comprising Balochistan Chief Justice Noor Muhammad Muskanzai and Justice Hashim Kakar has issued notices to the Board of Revenue Balochistan and Hubco.

Bhootani, citing precedence of Supreme Court ruling on cancelling the Riko Diq project, has called for cancelling the deal with Hubco in wider interest of the province.

The bench observed that in 1990s the provincial government had approved allotment of 714 acres of land to Hubco on the coast of Gaddani in Balochistan.

In contravention of the interests of the province, it said, the land was allotted to the power generation company for Rs3.5 million only which was no less than a joke with the resources of the province.
