Vocational training: Automobile industry courses introduced

MoU between TEVTA, automobile accessories manufacturers association signed.

LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Association of Automobile Parts and Accessories Manufacturers to start auto engineering courses.

Short courses will be offered in sheet metal casting, machining, injection moulding and forging.

The MoU was signed by TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and association chairman Mumshad Ali at the TEVTA Secretariat.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Sheikh said that the TEVTA would provide the resources needed for starting the courses. “Auto engineering sector is one of the most important industries in the country. This MoU will be helpful to provide trained manpower to this sector. In the first phase, these courses will be started at TEVTA institutes in Lahore,” he said.

He said that after Lahore, the courses would also be offered in other cities of the Punjab. “The curricula for the courses will be developed jointly by the two organisations as per requirements of the market. Practical training will be imparted by the association. Examination and certification will be provided by the Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE)/Trade Testing Board (TTB),” he said.

Mumshad Ali said that the TEVTA would be fully assisted in starting the training courses. “We will also cooperate with the TEVTA in designing, developing and reviewing curricula for technical trainings. We will also provide experts/master trainers for improving auto engineering education,” he said.

He said that after completion of training courses, successful students would be hired at salaries starting from Rs20,000 per month.
