Asif, Bilal, Masih, Iqbal to represent Pakistan in Asian Team and 6-Red championships.
KARACHI:
Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Bilal, Babar Masih and Asjad Iqbal are set to represent Pakistan in the Asian Team Event and 5th 6-Red Snooker Championship, which is scheduled to commence on May 18 in Abu Dhabi.
The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) has organised a six-day training camp for the four players at the Movenpick Hotel Arcade in Karachi.
According to PBSA President Alamgir Sheikh, the individual event will see Asif, Bilal and Masih in action, while Iqbal will be the fourth player in the team event with Asif.
Snooker: PBSA announce four-member squad
Sheikh said the PBSA chose the team based on the players’ performance at the international events this year.
He added that Sohail Shehzad and Muhammad Sajjad were dropped from the squad due to their unimpressive performances in Doha last month.
“We have a player contract that says that if someone wins the national championship, they will compete at the Asian championship too,” said Sheikh. “However, the federation can pick the team on its own discretion for events like the upcoming ones in Abu Dhabi.”
Asian Snooker Championship: Three-member team set for U21 event
He said that due to a busy calendar, the PBSA was unable to hold a national championship prior to the UAE tournaments.
