Displaced families returning to Orakzai Agency are likely to suffer as 36 health units remain non-functional and 42 have been partially or completely destroyed as a result of military operation in the region. Only seven health facilities were repaired using annual development funds.
These views were expressed by Orakzai Agency Surgeon Dr Muhammad Idrees when he spoke to The Express Tribune on Sunday.
He said, “Government data shows 15 basic health units, 21 civil dispensaries, five community health centres and one rural health centre were destroyed.”
He stated, “Only seven health centres were re-established by the government since [the rest were levelled in operations starting 2009].”
Idrees added, “The political administration and health departments are working hard to cope with the situation and if needed will provide emergency aid to the IDPs.”
