Man’s death case: Ruling party MNA put on notice

Directions came in response to an application of victim’s wife

ISLAMABAD: A lower court on Thursday summoned a ruling party member of parliament in the case of a man’s death in a hit-and-run accident.

Judicial Magistrate Hamayun Dilawar directed MNA Rohail Asghar to appear before the court at the next hearing on May 5.

The directions came in response to an application filed by the victim’s wife saying the police have not yet taken any action against the PML-N legislator.

The Additional District and Session Judge, West, Muhammad Atta Rabbani had ordered registration of FIR on an application of Shaheen Bibi, who accused the PML-N senior leader of killing her husband, Raz Muhammad, a security guard at a private company.

In an application filed under section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code, the woman through her counsel had said that her husband was heading home when a car bearing official registration plate hit her husband near Blue Area on August 10, 2014.

The counsel maintained that the injured man was taken to hospital but he died of the injuries. Later on, he said, it emerged that the vehicle belonged to MNA Asghar.

He said that application was submitted before the then SP Operations but police refused to lodge a case against the ‘influential man.’ He had alleged that the MNA had hit the security guard while he was walking on a footpath.

Police had informed the court that Asghar was not in the car and it was being driven by his driver, Zulfiqar.

Following the arguments, the court ordered the Kohsar police to register a case against Asghar.
