LANDIKOTAL, KHYBER AGENCY: The launching ceremony of new scanners for customs check points was held here on Tuesday morning which was inaugurated by Customs Collector Qurban Ali Khan.

“Smuggling is economic terrorism,” he said, adding that, “Pakistan Customs is the only organization in Pakistan which adds billions in revenues to the national exchequer.” The scanners were installed at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Torkham to facilitate in customs checking of goods for cross-border movement.

Qurban Ali informed that a foolproof mechanism was also provided for container checking at the border, adding that the new system will significantly help in curbing the levels of smuggling and money laundering. “This will greatly improve bilateral economic relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” he added.

Lucrative Trade: Two ‘smugglers’ killed

A large volume of cross border freight takes place through Torkham border in Khyber Agency. Additional and assistant collectors of Torkham, NLC officials, APA Landikotal and officials of NADRA and FIA were also present on the occasion.

sami shahid | 7 years ago | Reply Pakistan should create border commandos who can keep an eye on people who bring explosives from Afghanistan into Pakistan through mountains....anyway I'm glad you decided to install new scanners.
