LAHORE: The Lahore Transport Company (LTC) has decided to facilitate senior and disabled citizens with subsidised transport on its buses. It has also decided to issue concession cards to the students.

This was announced by the LTC chairman, Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan, at a meeting of the LTC Board of Directors.

Hassaan said that LTC will issue special cards to senior citizens and the disabled and also make arrangements for their registration for the purpose.

The LTC will consult with the educational institutions to make a policy for the issuance of concession cards to the students, he said.

He said that students of both private and public institutes will be able to avail the facility with the help of the concession cards issued to them. Effective fares from then, he said, will be as low as Rs5 for a single stage.

An LTC committee will enter into agreements with the interested schools to implement the policy by April 2011.

The senior citizens and the disabled people will be required to submit their photographs and national identity cards along with an application to the LTC in order to get registered. The lifetime registration will cost Rs100 only, he added.

The LTC will soon start plying 300 buses on the urban routes through public-private partnership.

The LTC has also decided to provide operational subsidy for the old buses.

The utilisation of subsidy for refurbishing old buses will be ensured. The buses will be monitored using tracking systems, which will be installed in the buses.
