KHANEWAL: A man chopped off his wife’s hands after she gave birth to their fourth daughter.

Illah Abad resident Musarrat is the mother of four daughters and said that she had been abused by her husband ever since she gave birth to her fourth daughter.

“My daughter was born nearly two months ago and ever since he has tortured me,” she told doctors and police before she collapsed.  Musarrat delivered a baby girl one and half months ago and her husband Altaf detained her with her daughters in a single room of the house. “We were all locked up for nearly two months and every day we would dread the time he returned home,” she told the police.

Musarrat told police officials that Altaf used to beat her with a stick every day and it started immediately after she delivered their fourth daughter Rabia.
“He blamed me for having daughters and he wouldn’t let me forget it. Now he has chopped off my hands and I cannot forget it,” she said.

On hearing her cries, one of the neighbours told Musarrat’s father Lal Baksh about the situation. “They told me that she had been abused for months. We hadn’t seen her but her but we had no idea this was happening,” Baksh said.

Laal Baksh arrived at his daughter’s house but Altaf along with his brothers Mukhtar, Mushtaq and Akram attempted to kill Musarrat with a knife. Altaf attacked his wife with an axe and chopped off both of her hands. Altaf and his brothers also beat Laal Baksh with sticks. Baksh informed the police and police officials recovered the victim and immediately shifted her to the THQ Hospital Kabeerwala where according to MS Dr Zafar Masood her condition was critical. “She has suffered massive bleeding not only from her hands but other open wounds and we are not sure we will be able to save her,” he said.

“When we found her there was so much blood it is hard to describe it. The entire floor was covered in blood,” said SHO Mehr Waseem.

Dr Masood also said that the children and their mother were severely malnourished. “He had detained them for over a month and nearly starved them,” he said. Police officials raided the house but initially Altaf and his brothers escaped the scene. Saddar Police Station House Officer (SHO) Mehr Waseem registered an FIR on a complaint filed by Laal Baksh and conducted raids in the village.

An FIR No40/2011 under Sections no337 F-1, 337 A-1,148,149 has been lodged against six people including the husband of the victim. Police officials conducted raids and have caught all of the accused. The men are currently being interrogated by the police.

Maybe he should have chopped off something which belonged to his own person. After all it is the man who determines the child’s gender. Ignoramus!Recommend

Part of me died today on reading this. Why are we so masochistic and violent to our own people and those we are supposed to take care of and love?

On a social note, why doesn’t the ghairat brigade and mullahs rise up and protest and threaten against such acts and the misogyny against women?

On a scientific/sarcastic note, a newborn’s gender is based on the chromosomes passed from the father. The culprit Altaf here of course did not know this, but if he had, would he have cut off his own hands, or another part of his body?Recommend

Agree with Jumma and Uzair. Let’s get the biology of things right and make an eye-for-an-eye law (repeat: LAW, not taking it upon oneself like mullahs or veena malik to establish and do what’s “right”) once and for all.

In this instance: the law should chop important “parts” off of this disgusting man’s body. Recommend

I can only say that how unlucky and ignorant are those Who are honored with daughters and they are not thankful to God.

Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was sent at a time when girl childs were buried alive and it has been described as the time of JAHALAT….. we see news about throwing babies specially girls babies in garbage or deserted places everyday….. almost killing a woman for giving birth to a daughter….. what will become of these 4 angels…. who as per Allah are REHMAT for parents and if u have 3 daughter and u raise them and get them married with dignity – paradise is promised for those parents. If someone has 2, same is true for them, if someone has 1 same is true for them as per the hadith. Isnt this Namoos-e-Risalat….. What does our law say about this man…. he should be hanged to death for not providing for the offsprings he produced and hurting his life partner. What a shame on us. We as a nation must rise above!!!!!Recommend

They call them selves Muslims when they follow traditions of Jahalia

A man who dont try to be human can never become a Muslim.

As for economic difficulties a muslim belives that every new commer brings his own Rizk for him self and his family. When you have no faith you become prisoner of Time and Space and God snatches you vision and WisdomRecommend

Kill this man, CJ of Pakistan. He is part of our Jahilia tradition, now so much in vogue across this country. And our countrymen ask about why earthquakes and floods come to Pakistan? Because of this, why else. Recommend

Really Sad. I think in Pakistan it is harder to have daughters than compared to other countries. Like if you have a bunch of daughters, you have to accompany them EVERYWHERE, even if they’re in their 20s since in Pakistan it’s hard for girls to even do normal things like go on a bus trip. And even if u do accompany them, there’s all this creepy stuff like eveteasing and trying to touch. So parents are always worried and busy with their daughters. On top of that, women in Pakistan generally just get degrees for leisure, not for actually working, so their education does not give any financial support to the family. After the end of it all, the daughter is usually gone far away so the parents don’t even get the benefit of having (usually) a more caring child with them.

This does NOT in anyway mean what he did was ok; I’m just saying that unfortunately the negative norms of a society can sometimes be manifested in a very extreme, cruel way like this. I am 100% for the death penalty in this case, and I hope some allowance can be given for the care of the young girls.Recommend

this is sad and wrong on so many levels what i don’t understand is how can one bring himself about to do such a thing…forget tying to justify his actions to others how was he able to convince himself to do so…locking your own children like animals and chopping of his wifes hand how does one manage to do that people need to be told the true that women are not in anyway inferior to men the common mentality of our masses…its when i hear things like these i fear the worst for my country and why don’t these mullahs take these things in notice instead of pointless issues like veena malik why don’t we (people who do see what is happening) do something about it why have we become prisoners in our own country unable to stand up for something right why does our media only care about its ratings and is unable to see how much negativity it is creating nationally and internationally when will our leaders have enough so that they will stop draining an already drained nation when will we wake up and realize its time for a change we did this all of us and its about time we undo it! It is just disgusting that this is not the first time something like this has happened, and will not be the last- simply because there is no one willing to take action against men that brutally treat their wives. I find it hard to believe that her father was not aware of the harm that was being inflicted on her. He simply wanted his daughter to suck it up and take a few beatings for bearing four girls. Kudos to police forces for letting this happen, yet again! You do Pakistan proud :)Recommend

How can one get in touch with the victim and support her and her daughters with funds for medical treatment etc?

I really hope they give the perpetrators suitable punishment and some mullahs can take time out in their busy lives (decorating murderers like Qadri and going on talk shows re Veena Malik) to condemn and protest this crime and tell people it is against Islam.Recommend

it is absolutely disgusting to hear that these things are still happening in this century!!! many women are being abused by ignorant and possessive men who take sport in torturing these poor humans who have nothing less than those of the opposite sex. women should be given equal rights in all parts of the world….religion has nothing to do with this….it is lack of education at its best and lack of equal opportunites and freedom!!!! shame on these animals…. i hope that these girls are already being helped as we speak….
