The love affair between World T20 winning captain Darren Sammy and Pakistan just seems to be growing.

After the Peshawar Zalmi player learnt Pashto and won over the hearts of Pakistanis, PSL franchise owner Javed Afridi requested the government to grant "honourary citizenship" to the West Indies player to reward him for “his love” for the country.

On Monday night, Javed tweeted he will request the government of Pakistan to offer honorary citizenship to the 32-year-old.

Happy to receive such an acknowledgement, Sammy was quick to accept the offer. But Sammy mistakenly replied to a fake Twitter account of K-P CM Pervaiz Khattak that played along with the citizenship offer.

In any case, we hope Sammy becomes one of us very soon. Javed also tweeted that they have requested the President of Pakistan to look into awarding Sammy the honorary status.

Sammy was a part of the Peshawar Zalmi squad in the first edition of the Pakistan Super League which took place in the UAE in February 2016. He also learned Pashto from Javed and called it a “very sweet language”.

Earlier, after winning the World T20, Javed had announced an award of $20,000 for the West Indies captain for displaying excellent team spirit in the event.
