Dubai, London Flats: ‘Musharraf has no illegal assets’

The secretary general said that Musharraf has a right to sue the newspapers for defamation

ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has denied reports of any illegal offshore holdings during his tenure as army chief and president of Pakistan.

The party’s secretary general Muhammad Amjad said in a statement on Saturday that the APML chief never had any property outside the country till 2009.

“It was only when he (Musharraf) went to London and stayed there for a while that some of his friends in the Gulf states helped him to purchase flats in London and Dubai,” the statement said.

Till 2009, the ex-president did not even have a bank account outside country and there is no question at all of Musharraf running an off-shore company or maintaining an off-shore bank account, the statement added.

Dubbing the reports as false accusations levelled against his party chief, the Secretary General said that musharraf has a right to sue the newspapers for defamation.

I really love the argument above that their corruption is too little compared to others because it exemplify the spinelessness of our youthias.

Humza | 8 years ago | Reply @Ayesha: Musharraf's ghost written book ( how can a guy who is semi literate in English write) was a big slap on the face of the nation and openly ridiculed abroad. How cheap of a serving leader , in this case a dictator to waste time selling his ghost written book while on a state trip in the US. The guy ruled for 9 years and gave Pakistan the worst terrorism and instability while not adding even 1 MW electricity to the nation's grid. He shamed the nation with his talk about Pakistani women wanting to be raped for overseas visas and money. How can this officer afford flats abroad when he pretends to be middle class. His son lives abroad like a king in the US. Musharraf's family needs to open their accounts. Musharraf should be investigated for the greatest fraud and it's shameful that the current government let him run away from treason charges. What will stop anyone from taking over with a gun and derailing democracy again unless people like Musharraf are taught the value of the constitution.

Why not invest the money in Pakistan instead. People need answers to these questions because the man was in positions of power and influence for several years.

Ayesha | 8 years ago | Reply He has earned more 'legal' money abroad (by giving expensive lectures and getting the royalty of his 2nd best selling book) than all the politicians of Pakistan. His name doesn't appear in any leaks unlike Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto - the most corrupt politicians of Pakistan.
