Governance: ‘534 development schemes completed’

As many 534 development schemes have been completed in Bahawalpur under the Annual Development Programme, Commissioner Saqib Zafar said on Saturday. He was presiding over a meeting.


The commissioner said the schemes had cost Rs537 million. He said Rs5 million had been spent on renovations at tehsil headquarters hospitals of Ahmadpur East, Hasilpur, Yazman and Khairpur Tamewali.

He said Rs40 million had been spent on renovations at Bahawalnagar DHQ Hospital, Chistian tehsil headquarters hospital and health units in Haroonabad, Minchanabad and Fort Abbas.

He said 926,144 children had been enrolled in schools while 275,000 more would be enrolled in an upcoming drive.

The commissioner said 443 schools had been provided basic facilities. Rs360 million was spent on this, he said.

“Dilapidated buildings of 210 schools were reconstructed at a cost of Rs475 million,” he said.

The wheat procurement campaign was also reviewed in the meeting.

Transport fares for the disabled reduced

The government has issued the orders to reduce public transport fares by 50 per cent for disabled citizens who carry Khidmat Cards.

According to a press release issued by the Regional Transport Authority Secretary Muhammad Tanveer Jhandeer, all transporters must display banners on the new fares.
