BEIJING: At least 10 people have been killed in a fire at a dormitory for railway workers in China’s Inner Mongolia region, the state Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.
Fourteen people were injured and taken to hospital in the fire, which broke out in the regional capital Hohhot late on Monday, the agency said in a brief dispatch. Six of them suffered serious burns, it said. The blaze was quickly brought under control, the report said, adding that an investigation had been launched. The workers had been building a railway tunnel in the area. The fire department in Hohhot refused to comment when contacted. Deadly fires are common in China due to lax safety measures.
