ABBOTABAD:

The first telepsychiatry unit has started functioning at Government Mental and General Hospital Dadar in Mansehra. The facility will provide assistance to patients facing mental health issues.

Last week, Tech Valley Chief Executive Officer Umar Farooq told journalists in Abbottabad the initiative was being run by his organisation in collaboration with Medibank and doctHERs. He said the lack of facilities at rehabilitation centres in Pakistan had created a network of problems for patients.

Farooq added a majority of the patients suffer from depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. He emphasised the need to do away with stigmas associated with mental health and create awareness. According to Farooq, doctHERs had launched an innovative health care solution to connect qualified physicians to patients.

He added there are currently four clinics in different parts of Mansehra that provide tele-consultation services in the country.
