LAHORE:

The federal government is committed to increasing investment in research and technology.

The government has overtime increased the development budget of the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research from Rs65 million to Rs250 million.

This was stated by Federal Science and Technology Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain in a meeting with a delegation of businessmen at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) premises on Saturday.

He regretted that failure of earlier governments to invest in science and technology sectors had kept the country dependent on the industrialised nations.

Lahore Chamber’s SVP Almas Hyder said technology parks could serve to spread the benefits of developments in science and technology. He urged the minister to establish technology parks in major cities of the country. He also stressed the need for greater government support for research.
