Old building: Four of a family dead in Lahore roof collapse

Four members of a family, including a mother and three children, died while another received injuries when roof of a two storey building collapsed in Misrishah police precincts on Thursday.


A rescue official said that they received a call at around 9.32pm that roof of a house in Mohallah Farooq Gunj Sheranwala Gate has collapsed. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and found the victims buried under the debris. It took over an hour to dig out the victims, who were immediately taken to nearest hospital where doctors pronounced four of them as dead on arrival.


The deceased were identified as Iram Zubair 38, Umair Zubair, 14, Namra Zubair, 13 and Shayan Zubair 4. The injured child, Abdul Rahman, was stated to be in stable condition.

An eyewitness, Ehtasham, told The Express Tribune that he was sitting with his friends in front of his when he heard the loud bang. “We followed the sound and reached the collapse site where screams were rising from a cloud of dust,” he said adding that a large number of people living in the area had also gathered and started rescue work.

They called rescue teams and police that reached in ten minutes and took the lead in relief work. A local said that the building was old and in a dilapidated condition.
