Actor Arthur Anderson, the voice of Eustace Bagge from Courage the Cowardly Dog, passed away at the age of 93, reported The New York Times.

His close friend Craig Wichman confirmed that Anderson died in Manhattan, US.

Anderson voiced the skinny mean husband of Muriel in Courage the Cowardly Dog from episode 34 to 52 and was also known for being the voice of cereal brand Lucky Charms’ leprechaun. He worked as a voice artist for radio before joining film-maker Orson Welles’s Mercury Theater. He also appeared on Broadway and worked on several films over a prolonged career.

Lucky the Leprechaun, his famous character, was a mischievous cartoon redhead that wore a green coat. “Frosted Lucky Charms, they’re magically delicious,” the cartoon would sing. In a 2005 interview with ABC, Anderson had said, “I never got free cereal,” adding, “But they gave me lots of green money. And it was a fun character to play. Hardly a day goes by when somebody doesn’t ask me to sing the Lucky Charms jingle, and I’m proud of that.”

Anderson worked on the 1937 Broadway production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, playing Lucius – the herald to 22-year-old Welles’ Brutus. His most memorable moment during the show occurred off-stage. After heeding an order to stop hurling light bulbs at a brick wall, he decided to light matches to test the melting point of the sprinkler heads. Besides setting off a fire alarm, he triggered a deluge just as Brutus ascended the pulpit above the body of Caesar on the stage below.

Anderson also appeared in the Woody Allen film Zelig (1983) and John Schlesinger’s Midnight Cowboy (1969) and on television in Car 54, Where Are You? and Law & Order.

The actor was married to Alice Middleton, a casting director, who died last year. He is survived by their daughter, Amy Anderson.
